Chamonix in Winter

Skiing the Vallee Blanche

The most famous run in the Chamonix area is the Vallee Blanche - a 24km run (if there is snow cover all the way to Chamonix) off-piste of breathtaking scenery.

For safety, you do need to be a good confident skier and it is important to ski with a guide on this run as it is on a glacier.

Pylones run at Grands Montets

Although Chamonix has a reputation for its off-piste the groomed slopes cater to all abilities. There are nursery areas and also plenty of intermediate level slopes to satisfy those skiers and boarders who like to cruise! Our property is a few seconds away on foot from the Brevent lift, which provides access to the sunny Brevent & Flegere slopes and to the Savoy nursery slopes.

The Brevent gondola was completely rebuilt a couple of years ago and is now almost always queue-free so you can be skiing on the Brevent ski runs within ten minutes of leaving the apartment. There are three other self-contained areas to ski along the valley, plus with a free bus service to Courmayeur makes it is easy to ski the Italian side of Mont Blanc, and enjoy some amazing pasta.

Snow shoeing in Italy on a beautiful sunny day

For both skiers and non-skiers snow-shoeing is a wonderful way to experience the mountains. The picture to the right is from a trip to Italy where we snow-shoed through deserted trails in a foot of light fresh powder.

Snow shoes can be hired very cheaply from hire shops in town. You can navigate one of the signed trails or sign up to a group outing such as those offered by the Compagnie des Guides (snow shoes provided).

A snowy evening in the centre of town If you would like a day of relaxation, or perhaps you don't ski, there are plenty of options, from enjoying a michelin-starred lunch (for only 17 euros!) to taking a train journey to Switzerland to enjoy the scenery. There are also plenty of shops to browse and museums/galleries to visit.
